It’s Spring

It’s Spring!

Today is officially the first day of Spring and the new season is upon us and we look forward to longer days and sunnier times ahead – no mention of the “C” word here..!

We cannot wait to get out into our garden again and get planting, with the help of our pooch, Bailey, the boxer.

We wanted to share some of our vintage outdoor pieces that are now online, allowing you to get creative with different shapes, form and colour.

Have a look below and let us know what you think!

Vintage 3 Tier Etagere Plant Stand

This vintage 3 tier etagere was sourced from France and is the perfect way to add a bit of dramatic effect to your outdoor space.

Add vintage terracotta pots filled with Spring bulbs, herbs and decorative vintage pieces, like this old watering can.

Vintage Wooden Brick Mould Planter

These vintage wooden moulds were once used in India to make clay bricks!

We love the fact that today, they can be repurposed and used as a planter on a windowsill to grow herbs, or bulbs.

Apart from growing herbs, March is the time to start sewing seeds to grow flowers and vegetables, if you have the space. The Unconventional Gardener blog, shares with you what can be sewn this month.

Vintage Watering Can

Vintage watering cans look great nestled among bushes or pots as decorative pieces, but are practical and functional too.

Find one with the rose still attached, so that you can give your plants a fine spray of water, without damaging them.

Vintage Cattle Drinker Planter

We love finding products that can be repurposed!

This vintage cast iron cattle water drinker is perfect for small Spring bulbs and makes for an interesting talking point in your outdoor space.

Vintage Olive Basket Planter

This vintage basket was originally used to pick olives and now is the perfect container for growing herbs.

The air slats around the basket allowed the olives to breathe and now, once planted, will allow water to drain away.

This piece would be a great for the urban gardener!

Growing herbs is easy and fun and they are packed with flavour to add to your cooking. Check out the 10 best herbs to grow in containers here.

Vintage 3 Tier Corner Plant Stand

Here is another example of adding a bit of theatre to an outdoor space, with this vintage corner plantstand.

Get creative with your planting, pots and decorative items to add height and drama to a corner of your outdoor space.

Get your guide to the perfect Spring garden here.

Sadly, we have had to cancel our Spring pop up event in a railway arch in Camberwell, but hope to have another, just as soon as we can.

Please join our mailing list to find out when and where the next one will be.

We would love to get your feedback – please drop us a line or comment at the end of this blog and share with any friends or family who may be into vintage. Thank you!

Keep well and stay safe.

Happy planting!

The past few months we have been working closely with an interior architect company to source these Mid Century furniture pieces for a West End financial company, which are now in situ and look fantastic!

If you are working on a commercial project and need vintage furniture and accessories, then we would be very happy to help source them for you. Please drop us an email.

We have had several pop up events this year, back at West Elm on Tottenham Court Road, but also at their two newer stores in Kingston and at Westfield, White City. We have also popped up at The Bentall Centre, the East London Furniture Flea at Bethnal Green and more recently, a stall at the Camberwell Fair.

In June, we were very happy to relocate our storage facility to part of a railway arch right next to where we live, where we are now able to do our photoshoots too. We will be holding a pop up event in the arch in October, to which you are more than welcome. More to follow on this closer to the time.

Future pop up dates:

28th-30th September – West Elm, Kingston

12th-14th October – West Elm, Tottenham Court Road, London

27th-28th October – Vintage Matters, Camberwell

We would love to hear your feedback on the website and what you like (or not!) or what we can improve. Simply add your comments at the bottom of the blog.

Thank you!

Vintage Matters Commercial Project

We have been busy these past months working with a London based interior architect, sourcing vintage Mid Century pieces of furniture for a new office space, opening this Summer in Hanover Square.

Mid Century McIntosh Credenza

We found this unique rosewood credenza or sideboard, that is very rare, which was designed by McIntosh over 50 years ago!

It features amazing radial veneers and a contrasting black laminate centre and is a real statement piece for the main meeting room.

Mid Century Walnut Round Table

We were asked to find a very large round Mid Century table for the Boardroom and were delighted to find this Martin Visser walnut table from Holland, which will comfortably seat 8 people.

The main feature is the three crossed legs in solid walnut and the three table top sections that join together, which measure an impressive 1.8 metres in diameter.

Large pieces of this size are hard to come across, as houses were much smaller back in the 1950’s and 1960’s, so this exceptional table was a real find!

Mid Century Dining Chairs

Then of course, we had to source 8 chairs that would work well with the table and compliment each other.

After a great deal of searching, we found these Danish upholstered chairs with arms, designed by Erik Kirkegaard in the 1960’s.

These are now in the process of being re-upholstered to meet UK fire and safety requirements, for use in a commercial space and will look fantastic next to the large table.

Mid Century Cadovious Bookcase

One of the breakout areas needed a large modular bookcase, like this piece that we found in Sweden and we are now busy sourcing some interesting pieces to fill the shelves!

These are really special…!

A stunning set of 2 vintage industrial lockers, of exceptional quality and style, which are for the exercise area.

They feature drop down compartments and pull out drawers, making them ideal for storing small personal belongings, whilst working out!

We have almost completed finding the various furniture pieces and are now finalising the assortment of decorative accessories, that will help give personality  and charm to the various spaces.

More to come when it is all in situ….

Enjoy the sunshine!

Vintage Matters Commercial Projects

Vintage Matters Commercial Projects

Vintage Matters has been busy these past few months working on some commercial projects that we would like to share with you.

Firstly, we were given a brief to supply vintage furniture and accessories to a “an extremely awesome PR, social media and experiential agency”, based in Old Street, London, for their new office space.

The giant vintage wall map and clock gave the company board room some warmth and character and became the focal point in the room.

The bar was a fantastic use of space that was brought to life with our gorgeous vintage soda syphons, corkscrews and silver plated ice bucket and cocktail shaker.

In addition to the statement and unique furniture items, we sourced and supplied the company name in illuminated letters for their reception area, to create a playful and impactful welcome to their space. These are mostly vintage letters that with a bit of love and some LED lighting we gave a new lease of life to.

Finally, the reception and meeting areas were propped with vintage antlers, old cameras, cine cameras and enamel wall plaques that add those familiar,  quirky and individual moments throughout.

In a retail project, we supplied a new store called Shinola that recently opened in Soho, London, which was featured in Wallpaper Magazine and described by the New York Times “as the coolest American brand!”. www.shinola.co.uk

We sourced a beautiful Mid Century Danish leather sofa, for customers to relax in the store and take 5, as well as a Scandi table and chairs.

We were excited to work with the set designer for the second series of Taskmaster, made by Avalon Television, which will be launching on Dave TV, on 21st June at 10 pm. http://dave.uktv.co.uk/shows/taskmaster/

We supplied a number of props for the contestants to use to perform tasks, set by the Taskmaster, Greg Davies, in this offbeat challenge show that tests the wiles, wit, wisdom and skills of five hyper-competitive comedians!

We are happy to work on any commercial projects, including hotels, bars, cafes, restaurants, office spaces and retail, as well as prop hire, including photo shoots, weddings etc.
