Framed Set Of 3 Antique Hand Coloured Insect Prints

Circa 1850, is this beautiful set of 3, hand coloured lithographs of Insects.

These engraved plates are from The Animal Kingdom by Baron Cuvier – Georges Cuvier, London edition 1834 and published by G. Henderson, based at 2 Old Bailey, London.

The Animal Kingdom [original french title: Le Règne Animal ] is Baron Cuvier’s most famous work

Jean Léopold Nicolas Frédéric Cuvier (French: August 23, 1769 – May 13, 1832), known as Georges Cuvier, was a French naturalist and zoologist. Cuvier was a major figure in natural sciences research in the early nineteenth century and was instrumental in establishing the fields of comparative anatomy and paleontology through his work in comparing living animals with fossils.

Framed in a simple ash frame, with a nice depth, complimented by a vanilla mount. The frame has a contemporary look to it, so will feel at home in any environment.

The prints are in very good condition and show only expected signs of age – like slight darkening around the edges (see photo for actual condition). The colours and paper are stable, and the paper flat.

Each measures 53 cms w x 33 cms h x 3 cms d
